Fuel subsidy removal: Atiku's aide slams President Tinubu

Fuel subsidy removal: Atiku's aide slams President Tinubu

Paul Ibe, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's media adviser, has chastised President Bola Tinubu for the poor handling of the gasoline subsidy removal.

Allnews.ng had reported that during his inaugural address at Eagle Square in Abuja on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu declared that there would be no more petroleum subsidy system.

The Nigerian leader stated that the 2023 budget does not include a provision for fuel subsidy payments.

In an interview with Channels Television's Politics Today on Friday, Ibe stated that President Tinubu had no preparations in place before eliminating the fuel subsidy.

Ibe argued that the withdrawal of the fuel subsidy was not thought through, resulting in inflation and a rise in the prices of fuel, transportation, and food items and the cost of doing business.

He stated that before the gasoline subsidy withdrawal was announced, the President should have devised a strategy to mitigate its impact on Nigerians.

The media aide of Atiku also accused President Tinubu and his administration of nepotism and intolerance.

He said: “What we have now in Tinubu’s government is nepotism and bigotry pro-max”
