Fuel Subsidy Suspension: Osun Government Exposes Planned Hoarding

Fuel Subsidy Suspension: Osun Government Exposes Planned Hoa

Ademola Adeleke

The Osun State Government has revealed that it has information on plans by markets to deliberately hoard Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in the state.

This, it revealed, arose as a result of the statement from the inaugural speech of the new President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the removal of fuel subsidy.

In a statement on Tuesday by the spokesperson to the state governor, Olawale Rasheed, the government added that the alleged action would cause unnecessary hardship for the people in the state.

While warning that it will not allow such within the state, it noted that the deliberate action is not only inhumane but unpatriotic.

The statement also revealed that the Special Monitoring Team on fuel scarcity set up by Governor Ademola Adeleke is still effective and will not condone any act of economic sabotage.

"As from today, 30th May 2023, the Committee shall begin special monitoring of all the filling stations across the state in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders.

"Any fuel station found guilty of hoarding fuel to create artificial scarcity shall be sealed off and operators prosecuted for the crime of economic sabotage," the government warned.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his inaugural speech had disclosed that the fuel subsidy regime has been suspended.

Tinubu added that part of the reason for suspending fuel subsidy is because it was no longer sustainable for Nigeria.
