FUGUS to graduate 2,534 students

The Federal University Gusau, FUGUS, has announced that 2,534 students are set to graduate in the upcoming 2024 ceremony.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mu'azu Abubakar Gusau revealed this on Monday during a press conference.

According to him, the Faculty of Science produced the highest number of graduates for the 3rd and 4th Convocations, totalling 1,195.

He gave a general summary of the class of degrees obtained by the graduates.

“43 students have obtained First Class degrees across the 3rd and 4th convocations while 676 and 1,737 have obtained Second class upper division and Second class lower division respectively.”

Prof. Gusau attributed the success in teaching and learning during his tenure to the reinstatement of staff training and development, which had been suspended before he assumed office as substantive Vice-Chancellor.

Regarding accreditation, Prof. Gusau said, "The National Universities Commission, NUC had granted full accreditation to the remaining 15 academic programmes bearing interim accreditation."

He also highlighted the scholarship benefits received by 190 staff members through TEFUND interventions, among other achievements.

Speaking about challenges faced by the institution, Prof. Gusau acknowledged, "Achievements could not have been recorded anywhere without some challenges as what we are facing in the institution is not unique to us alone but other federal institutions in Nigeria and Northwest in particular."

He identified funding and insecurity as significant challenges and advocated for increased investment in education by individuals to complement government efforts.
