Like a Northern star, the FUOYE team shone at this year’s Nigeria Association of Engineering, Geology and Environment (NAEGE), Minna 2023 as it emerged overall best institution in a keenly contested students’ Quiz Competition.
The FUOYE Team led by a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Geology, Professor Olusola Ojo, dusted other universities to emerge overall best position.
The universities were the University of Maiduguri, Federal University Minna and the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Minna.
This is contained in a release by the university Public Relations Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede to journalists in Ekiti State and the overall best position was won by FUOYE 400-Level Geology student, Alalade Kehinde Ayomikun.
Ayomikun, whose brilliant performance was adjudged exceptional, won the award on behalf of the university.
Besides, Professor Ojo who led the team, bagged the association’s highest award, FNAEGE.
According to the Professor of Geology, the outing was one of the best as FUOYE did not only shine like the Northern Star but demonstrated academic prowess which FUOYE was noted for globally.
This, he said, became possible following the doggedness and quality leadership being provided by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina.
The overall best award won by Ayomikun, Professor Ojo said was a testament that FUOYE products were capable of competing favourably with their peers globally.
"Well for FUOYE, it is a recognition of the quality of her faculty and the visibility of our University.
"Fellowship award is the highest professional recognition. The reputation of any university is measured by its visibility and it is directly related to the impact of the contributions in terms of national economic development, knowledge economy and government policies of the academics in the University.
"For me as an individual, it is a recognition of my colleagues and my modest contributions to knowledge.
"We also thumb up our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, for providing quality leadership and the enabling environment to thrive."
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina has congratulated the team, describing them as a good ambassador of Nigeria’s fastest-growing university.
The Nigerian Association for Engineering, Geology and Environment held this year’s International Conference at the Justice Legbo Kutigi International Conference Center, Minna, Niger State, where the Fellowship award was conferred on Professor Olusola Ojo.
Also, at the Conference alongside others was Alalade Kehinde Ayomikun, who represented FUOYE at the Quiz competition organized for participating universities where she clinched the coveted overall best award for the university.
