Fury handed boxing suspension, Usyk rematch date to be announced in July

Fury handed boxing suspension, Usyk rematch date to be annou

British heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury has been handed a one-week medical suspension from boxing after losing to Oleksandr Usyk last weekend.

Fury was beaten by split decisions by his rival as he lost the undisputed heavyweight world title fight in Saudi Arabia.

Usyk was handed a suspension until June 2 as he has been stripped of the IBO belt and Fury has now been told that he cannot fight until this weekend by the UAE Boxing Commission who oversaw the bout.

Both fighters were marked up after the fight with Fury requiring four stitches on a cut over his right eye while the Ukrainian was taken to hospital to be checked.

Initial fears that he had suffered a broken jaw proved unfounded. Meanwhile, Fury has made it clear he wants to fight Usyk again in their contracted rematch back in Riyadh in October. Fury's promoter Frank Warren says the second fight will be announced in due course.

Warren believes a second bout between the fighters will be better than last week’s classic.

Speaking at the announcement of Queensbury’s Magnificent Seven card on July 20, when the rematch date is expected to be announced, Warren told the PA news agency: “There will be a rematch and that will be confirmed and announced in due course. I think it will be better than the original fight.

"They both know each other, they’ve shared the ring and they’ll be looking to use what they’ve gained from the fight as an advantage to beat their opponent.”
