Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, Chairperson of First Bank of Nigeria, Ibukun Awosika, and other personalities have received honourary awards at the 25th convocation ceremony of Lagos State University, Ojo.
Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the institution's vice-chancellor, made this announcement at the 25th convocation lecture and congregation for Admission to Doc. of Philosophy (PH.D) of the institution on Thursday in Lagos on Thursday.
Governor of Borno, Prof. Babagana Zulum, Founder of Sheraton Lagos Hotel Plc, Goodie Ibru, and Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa were other recipients of the honourary awards.
The VC said the selection of the recipients was done after enough scrutiny and verification of their integrity, sacrifice, and contribution to Nigeria.
“Ganduje, in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of humanity is being conferred with the degree of Doc. of Letters (Educational Development, Healthcare Development and Community Development), honoris causa.
“Zulum is conferred with the degree of Doc. of Humane Letters (Community and Youth Development),honoris causa.
” Awosika is conferred with the degree of Doc. of Business (Entrepreneurship and Human Capacity Development), honoris causa.
“Ibru is conferred with degree of Doc. of Business (Commerce, Hospitality and Tourism and Dabiri-Erewa is being conferred with the degree of Doc. of Arts (Broadcasting, Community Integration and Human Rights Advocate,” Olatunji-Bello expressed.
The Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Gbolahan Elias, referred to the awardees as Nigeria's tokens
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that former Executive Secretary, National University Commission (NUC), Prof. Peter Okebukola, was awarded as the first Emeritus Professor of LASU.
Babajide Sanwo-olu, Governor of Lagos State; Dr Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Idiat Adebule; former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, and Mrs Folasade Adefisayo were also present at the ceremony.
