Ganduje Inaugurates Committee On Religious Tolerance Confere

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has inaugurated a Committee on Inter-Religious Conference.

The committee is expected to organise a befitting national conference that would deliberate and foster more religious tolerance in the country as the election period fast approaches.

The event took place at Africa House, Government House, Kano on Monday, with the attendance of some popular Clergymen from Islam and Christianity, as parts of the 23-member committee.

A statement by the Governor's Chief press secretary, Abba Anwar, Ganduje said it was done for the development of the state, the nation and humanity in general.

"The management of diversity in Nigeria has become an issue. A very important issue. There must always be respect of one religion for other religions," he said.

Governor Ganduje said for the state to continue to coexist with other nationalities, there is a need for programs like this.

Sheikh Muhammad Bin Uthman, Chief Imam of Sahaba Juma'at Mosque, is the Chairman of the Committee. While Arch. Bishop Peter Ogunmuyiwa (PhD) is the Co-Chair of the Committee. State Commissioner for Information Muhammad Garba serves as the Committee Secretary.

Governor Ganduje added: "The membership of the committee looks at the diversity of this nation, the utterances you people are making, your behaviours towards diversity management and your commitment to nation building.

"You are to organise a befitting inter-religious Conference, you choose the appropriate theme, select the appropriate date, day and venue for the proposed Conference.

"Part of your terms of reference is to also provide adequate publicity, before during and after the conference."

Governor Ganduje had organised two similar conferences with the sole intention of promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence among followers of different religions in the state.
