Geometric Power Takes Over Aba Electricity Distribution From

The Aba Power Distribution Company will help address electricity supply challenges in the Abia State commercial centre.

This was made known by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Geometric Power Limited, Professor Barth Nnaji.

The new electricity DisCo will be in charge of electricity distribution in Aba “Ring Area” of nine local government areas.

They include Aba North and South, Isiala Ngwa North and South, Osisioma, Ugwunagbo, Obingwa, Ukwa East and West.

Professor Nnaji praised the Muhammadu Buhari administration for ensuring that the process of taking over the Aba “Ring Area” from the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) was finalised after nine years.

He said Aba DisCo was set to hit the ground running to provide a 24-hour power supply to Aba residents, adding that the company’s mandate was to enable the commercial nerve of Abia to assert its Japan of Africa status.

At a briefing at its Osisioma Power Generating and Distribution Gas Plant, Nnaji said it was expected that the company would start generating its power in the next six months (August).

He said Geometric Power management was in advanced discussion with Shell Nigeria to ensure uninterrupted gas supply from Shell facility in Owaza, Ukwa West LGA of the state through its 27km, 6 inch Gage gas line.

The former Minister of Power promised to deliver quality and affordable electricity to users within its Ring Area.

Nnaji said: “We have started replacing lines and energising transformers that have not been working.

“We don’t have any excuse not to work. We must operate like a private business. We hope that our coming into Aba will not only help to reactivate moribund industries but to attract the citing of new industries in Aba.

“We are targeting to distribute 38,000 meters to both old and new customers in the coming days ahead and we will operate with the approved electricity tariff from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).”
