George Floyd: African American Dies After Police Officer Chokes Him With A Knee

George Floyd: African American Dies After Police Officer Cho

A video of a police officer in Minneapolis choking the breath out of a handcuffed black man by kneeling on the neck of the detainee for over five minutes has stirred anger in the United States over the maltreatment of African Americans in the country.

Reacting to the incident, four police officers were fired by the Mayor of Minneapolis, Mayor Jacob Frey.

In the video, George could be seen, pressed to the floor while shirtless, with an officer resting on his neck.

Floyd could be heard pleading with the officer saying, "Your knee in my neck. I can't breathe... Mama. Mama."

Floyd's pleas could be heard diminishing, as he found it hard to breathe, he grew silent and laid immobile, with the police officers jeered at him saying, "get up and get in the car."

He was rushed to the hospital where he passed on.

Speaking on the video, the mayor said, "What I saw was wrong at every level.

"For five minutes, we watched as a white officer pressed his knee into the neck of a black man.

"Being black in America should not be a death sentence."

Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney, retained by the family explained that the deceased had been accused by the police officers of forgery.

He said, "This abusive, excessive and inhumane use of force cost the life of a man who was being detained by the police for questioning on a non-violent charge."

The case, according to the Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo, has been passed on to the FBI for further investigation, as the case could be turned into a federal rights violation case.

An African American civil rights attorney in Minneapolis, Nekima Levy Armstrong, via Twitter said, "This is pure evil.

"Those same officers need to be charged and convicted of murder."
