A 21-year-old resident of Hildesheim, a northern city in Germany, has been arrested over his plans to kill Muslims in the country, with the suspect reportedly inspired by the mosque shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand.
According to the state prosecutor's office, the suspect had outlined his plans “in an anonymous internet chat."
Investigations into the matter reveal that the suspect “has for some time been considering the idea of committing an attack in which he wanted to kill numerous people in order to attract worldwide media attention."
The suspect had, in the chat, alluded to the murderer who killed 51 people in two separate mosque attacks in Christchurch in March 2019, saying that he wanted to duplicate such attack.
The state prosecutors say that the suspect's “aim was to kill Muslims.”

When the suspect's home was raided by officers of the German Police, electronic files laden with extremist content and weapons were discovered.
He has been taken into custody and was charged with threatening to commit criminal misdemeanour and the financing of terrorist acts by purchasing lethal weapons.
In February, a gunman killed nine people at a shisha bar and a cafe in Hanau, a city near Frankfurt, while two other people died in an attack on a synagogue in Halle, in October of 2019.
