Girl-Child Day: Foundation Donates Stationeries To Secondary

The Mohammed Ajia Ibrahim (MAI) Foundation distributed stationeries to selected secondary schools in Ilorin, Kwara State on Tuesday.

The founder of the foundation made it known to the students that the provision of the items essential for their education was made to mark the 2022 International Day of the Girl Child.

Ajia who was represented by Hajia Sikirat Shehu, the Director of Communication, Media and Publicity, MAI Foundation, at the event said the day was celebrated to eliminate gender-based problems facing girls around the world such as child marriages, unequal learning opportunities, violence, and discrimination.

He noted that the discrimination could be eradicated through the input of stakeholders in the provision of basic needs for the education and empowerment of the girl-child such as scholarship opportunities to grom them of the future.

He further urged the female students to encourage themselves and work towards becoming independent.

“As a woman, you should never stop learning and try to upgrade your own sense of knowledge about any subject in this world. After all, ‘knowledge is beauty’.

“Try to remain close to people who know and understand you better because these people will offer advice that will help you explore and face challenges in your field of interest.

Ramat Adeshina, the former Kwara Commissioner For Women Affairs, also advised the students to focus on education and not get involved in activities that might hinder them from achieving that, including unwanted pregnancy.

The Commissioner maintained that education and hard work can assure a girl-child of any position she desires in life.

“A woman is a symbol of pride and strength. If she can cook food for many people; then she can fetch fortunes too.

"Try to be a guide for yourself and be an independent soul forever,” she advised.
