The Founder and General Overseer of the All Christians Fellowship Mission, Rev. Williams Okoye, has urged couples who constantly experience abuse and violence in their marriage to take a break from such.
Rev. Okoye gave the advice during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday, stating that although the Bible forbids divorce, it is acceptable under the law.
The G.O. said those in abusive relationships should separate from their partners rather than stay and be killed.
“Stay away from that relationship and pray and do whatever is needed to be done from both sides to make sure the situation is rectified.
“But if it is clear that the man or woman is not changing, I don’t encourage anybody to go back and stay in that relationship.
"I don’t believe that God will want you to go and die because of that.
“The bible condemns killing and divorce but alternatively to prevent being abused to death take a break to resolve it through prayers", the clergyman advised.
The reverend further said it was against the word of God to beat one's partner, husband or wife.
