 Gold Mine Collapse:  38 Killed In Sudan

At least 38 people have been reported dead after a gold mine collapsed at the Darsaya mine in West Kordofan, Khartoum, Sudan.

According to the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, the incident happened over the weekend and the spokesperson for the company, Ismael Tissou said on Wednesday that at least 38 people had died in the incident.

Also in the accident, at least 8 persons were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatments.

The Sudanese Mineral Resources Company Limited said that the Darsaya mine was a closed and non-functioning mine in Khartoum and that the mine had been condemned for being unsafe. Local miners however, came to work at the mine after the security forces guiding the mine had left the area.

It was gathered that villagers and rescue teams gathered at the site, hoping to find possible survivors and bodies.
