Golden Eaglets beat Ghana in WAFU B 3rd place final

Nigeria's Golden Eaglets defeated host country Ghana 3-2 in the third place of the WAFU B U17 AFCON qualifiers on Tuesday evening to win the bronze medal.

Imrana Muhammad put the Nigerians ahead in the ninth minute few minutes after captain Simon Cletus missed a gilt-edged chance to put the Manu Garba-coached side in the ascendency.

Ghana equalised through Harvey Gbafa with a textbook header from a 19th-minute freekick.

The Ghanaian teenager also scored the game's next goal to put the Black Starlets ahead in the 27th minute with a delightful flick from another freekick taken by Abdulwarith Yunus.

Boluwatife Ekishola's header inside the Ghanaians' penalty area before the halftime break but his effort was tame.

The Nigerians continued to find parity as John Ogwuche also came close from Destiny Samuel's cross which did not culminate in the much-needed goal.

Abdulmuiz Adeleke then got the second goal for Nigeria in the 40th minute from a perfect header into the bottom corner.

Adeleke then got the winning goal with a brilliant shot after his initial effort had come off the crossbar as the game petered away.

The team awaits CAF's verdict on how many teams will qualify for the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in 2025.
