Golden Eaglets beat Togo, reach WAFU B semifinals

Nigeria's U-17 national team, the Golden Eaglets have qualified for the semifinals of the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship following their 3-0 win over Togo at the University stadium, Accra in the rescheduled Group B game at the WAFU B competition in Ghana.

The defending champions of the regional Championship which will produce qualifiers from West Africa to the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations could not face Togo on Wednesday according to the fixtures due to a heavy rain that prevented action to hold necessitating a postponement.

Coach Manu Garba made two changes to the side that defeated Niger on Matchday 2, with John Ogwuche replacing the injured Boluwatife Ekishola and Edward Ochigbo taking the place of Oreoluwa Agbenla in midfield.

The Eaglets made their attacking intention clear as early as the 5th minute but Abdulmuiz Adeleke was stopped from putting his shot away by the Togo defence.

However, Adeleke could not be stopped four minutes later when he was teed up by Abdulmuiz Oladimeji, placing the ball to the bottom left corner.

Togo had their fair chances to restore parity but it was Nigeria that doubled the lead in the 32nd after captain Simon Cletus who has been turning heads at the competition found Rapha Adams with a pinpoint cross and the latter headed past the stranded Togolese goalkeeper.

Abdulmui Adeleleke scored his brace in the 57th minute after another assist from Cletus.

The Eaglets will face Ivory Coast in Saturday's semifinal game while Ghana will square off against Burkina Faso after their 1-0 victory over Niger.
