Gombe: FG To Establish Three Bilingual Almajiri Schools

The Federal Government is collaborating with the Gombe state government and the Islamic Development Bank to establish three bilingual Almajiri boarding schools in Gombe state.

This was disclosed on Thursday by the Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Babaji Babadidi in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Babadidi said the schools will be located at Dogonruwa, Gombe South, Garin Hardo, Gombe Central and Tudun Wada Central Senatorial Districts.

He further disclosed that the languages to be adopted in the schools include, Arabic, English and Indigenous languages such as the Hausa and Fulfulde.

While noting the importance of establishing the schools, he said it will reduce the number of out if school children while boosting enrollment and open opportunities to students in information and communication.

He also disclosed that the state government has already approved the construction of a model Almajiri boarding school at Yalanguruza.

According to him, “It is the responsibility of the government to provide education to all manner of people; we do not want them to be going around without a formal education.

“We want the Almajirai to acquire both Islamic and western education in order to be better citizen tomorrow."

Babadidi added that while the construction had reached an advanced stage, the government will equip the School with facilities to enhance learning like in the conventional schools.
