Gombe First Lady, Ashaka Cement Offer Scholarship To 15 Girl

The Gombe State First Lady, Dr Asma'u Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in a partnership with Lafarge Ashaka Cement have offered study scholarship to 15 girls in the state.

The scholarship was through the First Lady's Jewel Care Foundation and Ashaka Cement's Save-the-girl-child education scheme.

This was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on media and publicity (Office of the First Lady), Bintu Aliyu Sunmonu.

The First Lady who was represented by the Gombe State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Naomi J. Awak stressed the need to educate the girl-child.

She also described the program as a milestone towards the right direction. 

In his remark, chairman of the board of trustees for the Jewel Care Foundation, Hamisu Saulawa said the foundation has prioritized educating the vulnerable and less privileged in order to make them assets for national development. 

Saulawa further disclosed that the foundation alongside Lafarge has agreed to work on securing admissions into the university for students who excel in their final exams.

He added that the process will be a continuous one from now. 

The 15 girls were admitted into the Federal Government Girls College, Bajoga in the state.

Meanwhile, the Head of Social Corporate Affairs at Ashaka Cement, Abubakar Alhaji Mohammed said the scholarship covers every school expenses of the students including WAEC, NECO and JAMB. 

Also receiving the students, the principal of FGGC Bajoga, Justina Isaac appreciated the First Lady, describing her as "a true mother with a heart of gold."
