The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has said that residents in Gombe and other northern states should expect heavy rainfall from Wednesday afternoon and evening.
The agency added that the affected states include Bauchi, Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Kaduna, Kano, and Plateau.
The rainfall which is reported to begin on Wednesday is expected to roll through the next three days.
This was disclosed by the agency in its weather advisory on Tuesday.
However, the agency added that expected moderate rainfall would be experienced in parts of Adamawa, Kwara, Kebbi, Katsina, Benue, Kogi, Niger, Cross River, Nasarawa, Taraba, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Ekiti, Oyo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu states and the federal capital territory - Abuja.
NiMet further revealed that following the three days of heavy rainfall, residents should expect floods in some areas.
The agency said, “As a result of the expected moderate to heavy rainfall in the next three days, there are chances of flash flooding of roads and low-lying settlements."
While urging emergency agencies to be on alert, the agency further disclosed: "The rains should be accompanied by strong winds, hence displacement and falling of weak buildings and makeshift structures are likely."
It added that the weather may likely disrupt flight operations in the affected states, urging the public to be careful.
