Gombe Police Neutralises Kidnapper, Recovers AK 47 Rifle

The Gombe State Police Command has neutralised a suspected kidnapper in Akko Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was killed in a gun duel with the police and local vigilantes/hunters in the state. 

This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by ASP Mahid Mu'azu Abubakar, spokesperson of the command.

Abubakar explained that the suspect was part of a group of three suspected kidnappers who were sighted along Lawanti village of the LGA.

He noted that following intelligence report received by the State's CID Anti-Kidnapping unit, the police and vigilantes engaged the suspects.

"On receipt of the information, the officer in charge of the unit in collaboration with the Hunters and Vigilante groups mobilised to the scene and engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel.

"Due to the firepower of the Police, one of the suspects was neutralized while others took to their heels with bullet injuries, an AK-47 Rifle, a magazine with 5 live bullets, and a Honda Bajaj Motorcycle were recovered as exhibits."

According to the statement, the state's Commissioner of Police, CP Oqua Etim commended the officers for the success recorded.

He further directed a discreet investigation into the incident and ensure that the fleeing suspects are brought to book. 

CP Etim also appreciated the people of Gombe state and called on them to continue to support the command with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the criminals.
