Gombe Ready To Combat Heat-Related Diseases

The Gombe Government says it has introduced repurposed drugs to combat heat-related diseases in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru said this while speaking on control of heat-related illness.

As the heat period dawns on some Northern states, medical experts have identified three types of heat-related diseases which include Heat Cramps, Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke.

Dahiru said the ministry has adopted an effective Incident Management System to enhance disease surveillance and monitoring during outbreak and its magnitude.

“As the heat period is fast approaching, we have repositioned essential drugs to combat the diseases associated with the period.

“Some heat-related diseases caused dehydration; therefore, people should drink enough water to be hydrated.

“We are also emphasizing immunisation, especially measles which could be prevented through vaccination,” NAN quoted the commissioner in a Friday report.

He advised parents to present their children for the Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTP) vaccination to protect them against diseases.

“The public should be aware that these diseases are real and around us”.

The commissioner advised residents of the state to adhere to precautionary measures by keeping their environment clean, avoiding crowded places and ensuring proper ventilation.
