Good Friday: Cleric, Others Charge Christians On Sacrifice,

In celebration of Good Friday, Mr. Enyioma Okoronkwo, the Resident Pastor, Victory Family Church, Abakaliki, has called on Christians to strive for the betterment of others.

Okoronkwo made the call on Friday in Abakaliki to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.

The clergyman said that sober reflection on the circumstances that necessitated the death of Jesus Christ for mankind would bring total liberation in all endeavors.

He urged the people to have a change of attitude and positively impact the lives of the less privileged in society.

“The life and teachings of Jesus are the foundation of Christianity. We should practice lessons of Easter by sacrificing, contributing, and impacting positively in the life of people,” Okoronkwo said.

Also, Nnamdi Okeke, a Christian faithful and resident of Abakaliki said people should strive to emulate Jesus Christ by being generous without discrimination and regret.

“Jesus Christ laid his life without having any personal interest, but for the good of mankind. It is important we follow the path of Jesus Christ and desist from being self-centered and greedy,” Okeke said.

Another Christian faithful, Mrs. Rose Uguru, prayed for the country’s progress and urged politicians and others in authority to focus more on assisting the needy in society.

“The feast of the day is important in every Christian’s life because it marks the crucifixion of Jesus. To me, it supersedes every celebration and festival because it is the day, he laid his life for mankind,” Uguru said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the day is observed during the holy week as part of the ‘Paschal Triduum’ on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday.

The day also commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
