Google revealed on Monday that it has classified a number of apps developed by a major Chinese e-commerce company as potentially harmful, informed users who had them installed, and suspended the firm's main app.
Pinduoduo, a burgeoning e-commerce behemoth with around 800 million active users, has been accused by numerous Chinese security researchers of creating Android apps that contain malware intended to monitor users.
A Google representative named Ed Fernandez stated that "off-Play versions of this app that have been determined to contain malware have been imposed on via Google Play Protect," in reference to programmes that are not available through Google Play.
In actuality, Google has configured Google Play Protect, its Android security feature, to prevent users from downloading these harmful apps and alert users who already have them installed to remove the apps.
Google has suspended the official Pinduoduo app from the Play Store, according to Fernandez, "because to security concerns until we conduct our investigation."
