Google announced on Friday that Equiano subsea cable is expected to launch in Nigeria as a major landing point in April to increase internet speed and create 1.6 million jobs in Nigeria.
Director of Google West Africa, Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor revealed this during a meeting with the Nigeria Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami.

According to Google, the Equiano cable is expected to increase internet speed and create 1.6 million jobs in Nigeria
Google aims to invest $1 billion on projects which also include the Equiano subsea cable in Africa over the next 5 years and to support Nigeria's National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy for a Digital Nigeria.
Ehimuan-Chiazor said, “The cable is expected to enable a fivefold increase in average internet speeds in Nigeria and create 1.6 million jobs."
She stated that Nigeria is a major landing point for the cables and much like road construction, the cable is launched as it lands at different points on the continent.
