Gov Eno seeks Tinubu's support for Akwa Ibom oil palm progra

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, Wednesday after meeting with President Bola Tinubu has started to seek support for the oil palm agricultural program in the state.

At the Presidential Villa in Abuja,  Eno also  spoke to reporters, expressing his administration's commitment to revamping moribund industries in the state.

He highlighted the need for the federal government support and develop the full value chain, generate employment, and contribute to the country's overall growth.

During the discussion, Governor Eno conveyed New Year wishes to President Tinubu and explained the purpose of his visit, stating, "So, wishing the president a Happy New Year was paramount for us, and we pray that God will keep him in good health and continue to give him the strength to carry on his work as the president Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."

The governor outlined the requests made to the president, focusing on support for the Ibom Deep Seaport and the state's oil palm agricultural program. He emphasized Akwa Ibom's status as an oil palm zone and the ongoing efforts to revive the industry, with the ultimate goal of contributing to Nigeria's self-sufficiency in palm oil production and potentially exporting it.

President Tinubu reportedly encouraged Governor Eno to present a memorandum detailing the requests. The governor also discussed the success of Ibom Air, a state-owned airline, highlighting its profitability and reinvestment for expansion.

Governor Eno underscored the significance of the Ibom Deep Sea Port for Nigeria's economy, particularly in relieving congestion in Lagos. He emphasized the port's potential to cater to the southeast, south-south, and Niger Delta regions. The governor acknowledged the importance of collaboration with the federal government to advance projects and initiatives in Akwa Ibom State.
