Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has expressed sympathy for the Nigerian Army following the deaths of a captain and five soldiers in an ambush by bandits.

He referred to the act as awful, offensive, and inappropriate in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim and distributed to the media in Minna on Sunday.

He expressed his utmost sorrow for security agents, stating, "They are daily making sacrifices to ensure the safety of citizens, with most of them paying the supreme price."

Bago told the Nigerian Army and all other conventional and non-conventional security agencies that his government will not rest on its laurels in giving all necessary support to put an end to bandits' nefarious activities.

He then commiserated with the families of the dead officers and personnel, as well as a vigilante, pledging that their deaths would not be in vain.

Allnews.ng had reported that bandits ambushed and murdered some security personnel on Friday, including a captain, soldiers, and a vigilante, while on their way to react to a distress call in Bassa and Alawa towns in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
