Governor Bala Promises To Improve Agribusiness In Bauchi

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has promised to improve agribusiness in the state for economic development.

The governor made the promise while launching the sales of fertilizer for the 2023 rainy season.

The 50kg NPK fertilizer which production cost stands at N17,800 now goes for N15,000 to the farmers following the governor's subsidy.

The event took place on Tuesday at Azare, headquarters of the Katagum Local Government Area of the state. 

According to the governor, the sum of N2 billion has been used for the purchase of materials to produce the products for this season.

He explained that his administration has paid all the outstanding debt with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority and has also facilitated funds to the maintenance of the Bauchi Fertilizer Blending Company to ensure seamless production of the commodity.

The governor further said that his administration will provide fertilizer on loan to interested civil servants in the state, adding that payment would be in installments.

This was contained in a statement by Lawal Muazu Bauchi, New Media aide to the governor.

According to Bauchi, the governor directed the distribution of the fertilizers to farmers up to the wards level across the state. 

To address the inadequacy of extension workers, he also directed the Ministry of Agriculture to forward proposal for employment of extension workers and other agric-related personnel to the office of the Head of Civil Service.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Farouk, appreciated the governor for the subsidy, assuring of his continuous support to the governor.
