A graduate of engineering has been arrested for allegedly stealing a Toyota Hilux engine valued at N2 million and selling it for N30,000.
The vehicle has been reported to be owned by the University of Calabar.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the suspect was arrested alongside his two accomplices by the security team of the university.
The Chief Security of the institution, retired Captain Augustine Bisong revealed to newsmen that the three had confessed to the crime.
Bisong further explained that the engine was bought as a replacement for a bad one before the suspects stole it from the institution's mechanic workshop.
“We have identified the buyer and other possible accomplices who took the engine out of the university.
“So far, we have arrested three persons; we are also on to other suspects involved in the engine theft and other related damages to the critical infrastructure of the university.
