Graham Potter
Graham Potter is an English manager whose stock has risen over the years following his impressive work at Brighton.
He has been named Chelsea's new coach, replacing Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked on Wed night.
1. Playing Career:Potter started his football career as a left-back, playing for the likes of Southampton, West Brom, Stoke City, and Birmingham City in a career spanning 13 years.
He made 307 appearances in total, scoring 16 goals, at the international level, he was capped once by England at the U-21 level.
2. Coaching Career:
Potter started out as a football development manager for the University Of Hull before serving as a technical director for Ghana Women's team at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup.
He was appointed the coach of Ostersund in 2010 when the club was playing in the fourth division of the Swedish league.
He led them to the Swedish first division between 2013 and 2015 for the first time in their history.
Ostersund finished eighth in their debut season in the top flight drawing praise for their slick passing game with a limited budget.
Potter won the Svenska Cupen in 2017 and also qualified for the Europa League.
Ostersund recorded a stunning 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the Europa League before losing to the Gunners 4-2 on aggregate to crash out in the second round.
Potter was appointed as Swansea City's manager in 2018 he guided the Welsh team to the FA Cup quarter-finals in 2018.
He joined Brighton in 2019 after Chris Hughton was sacked.
Potter has led Brighton to 15th, 16th, and ninth-place finishes in his three seasons at the Amex Stadium.
3. Playing Style
Potter is known for his progressive and unconventional coaching style, he is also tactically flexible while playing attacking and possession-based football.
While at Swansea, Potter used ten different formations and completed the most passes per 90 minutes in the Championship.
He has cited the philosophy of Pep Guardiola among his influences.
Potter is not fixated on a particular formation he is always open to tweaking things in the middle of a match.
Last season, he played a back four formation 17 times and a back three 21 times in the Premier League.
