Greece's Transport Minister announced his resignation following the deadly train crash.
The crash killed at least 36 people and injured dozens of others on Wednesday.
Minister Kostas Karamanlis in a statement said that resigning was his duty and the least he could do to honour the victims.
He added that he was undertaking the responsibility for the state's long-standing failures.
On the accident, he also promised that no findings would be kept secret.
Emergency services say at least 36 people were killed in the crash between a freight train and a passenger train near the city of Larissa.
