Human rights experts of the United Nations have called for an investigation into the explosion that happened in Beirut, "as well as the underlying human rights failures."
The group is not a mouthpiece of the UN but it sends its findings to the UN.
Meanwhile, the President of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, has rejected calls for an international investigation into the explosion.
The statement by the group read, “We support calls for a prompt, impartial, credible and independent investigation based on human rights principles, to examine all claims, concerns and needs in relation to the explosion as well as the underlying human rights failures."

They added that the identities of the victims and witnesses should be considered during the investigation, state the expert.
