Guard stabbed to death while settling quarrel in Lagos

The Lagos Police Command has disclosed that Yusuf Akadogo, a private security guard, was fatally stabbed while settling a brief disagreement.

The Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the event to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Tuesday. He said that the dead security officer was assaulted by an Okada rider who is still at large.

According to Hundeyin, the incident happened on Thursday in the state's Idi-Araba region.

“On that fateful day, around 9:20 p.m., the police received a distress call from a concerned community member regarding a disturbance at Igbira Road, Idi-Araba,” Hundeyin said.

He said that as soon as police officers arrived on the site, an eyewitness gave a detailed account of what had happened.

A witness said that the deceased security guard was trying to settle a fight between the Okada rider and someone else.

“Unexpectedly, the motorcycle rider, whose identity is withheld, allegedly turned his aggression towards the security guard and stabbed him in the stomach with a knife.

“The victim was rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, for urgent medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

“The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack, and the area is currently under surveillance as efforts to apprehend him are ongoing,” he said.

In another instance, Hundeyin said that four guys were taken into custody by police for breaking into a musical instrument warehouse in the state's Ikota region.

According to the spokesman, a warehouse owner had reported theft, and as a result, the suspects were taken into custody on June 11 at around 430 p.m.

Hundeyin noted that Idi-Oro Mushin reported to the police that two young guys, whose identities are not disclosed, were found in possession of two large speakers that were purportedly taken from the warehouse.

The owner of the store revealed that merchandise valued at millions of Naira had been taken from the warehouse.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that a man called Pastor, now at large, conspired with the suspects on June 10, at about 11.30 p.m.

“They had driven into a warehouse in the Okota area with a mini truck vehicle with which they carted away their loot.

“The 25-year-old security man and 33-year-old supervisor in possession of the warehouse keys were later arrested, ” he said.

The Oshodi-based alleged pastor, according to Hundeyin, left before the police arrived.

While investigations into both occurrences are ongoing, he stated that attempts were underway to capture the culprit and retrieve the stolen property.
