The Minna Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has stated that it will no longer allow the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, to ridicule them any further.
The chairman of the union in the region, Gbolahan Bolarin, said urged the federal government to stop treating its lecturers like casual workers.
According to him, Nigerian lecturers are among the best in the world.
“Our members were paid for the number of days they had worked and this is unfortunate and demeaning to us.
“FUT Minna has resolved to reject in totality the reduction of Nigerian scholars to casual workers and attempts by the Minister of Labour and Employment to destroy our public universities under any guise.
"We will not allow Chris Ngige to ridicule us because Nigerian lecturers are among the best in the world", Bolarin said.
The chairman stated that the half salary paid to lecturers is an insult to academia and the country at large, adding that the federal government is pushing the tutors to the point where aggression would be shifted to the students.
