Headies 2020: What You Should Know

The 14th Headies Award, which is scheduled to take place Sunday, February 21, 2021, will be a virtual event, unlike the past ones. This is owing to the Coronavirus restrictions in Nigeria.

This is the first time fans and guests won't be gathered together to witness the recognition of their favourite artistes.

However, the event can be enjoyed in the comfort of your home. You can live-stream it on HipTV channel and The Headies official social media channels on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. The event will also be on Airtel TV, the app can be downloaded on Google Play for Android users and Apple Store for iPhone users.

Most parts of the ceremony won’t be live as they have been pre-recorded. Some aspects of the red-carpet have also been pre-recorded.

The venue will have less than 40 people in the hall, while winners are expected to come to the hall for their awards and go back to their separate rooms.

The Next-Rated category, recognition for the new artiste that is expected to do great things in the music industry, is the most sought after and fans are already rooting for their favourite artiste. The battle is between Bella Shmurda, Omah Lay, Tems, and Oxlade.

The race for the ‘Artiste of the Year’ will be between Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Mayorkun, and Tiwa Savage. Davido and Wizkid have both won the award twice, if either of them wins this time, it will be the third.

Nigerian stand-up comedian, Bovi, and Nollywood actress, Nancy Isime, will be the host for the 14th edition. This will not be the first time either of them will be hosting the show. In 2018, Bovi was paired with On-Air personality and Vlogger, Toke Makinwa while Nancy Isime, alongside ace rapper, Reminisce, hosted the show in 2019.
