The Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria is set to partner with the Kaduna State Polytechnic for the inauguration of a Health Information Management tutor training programme.
The board's Registrar, Babagana Mustapha, disclosed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the polytechnic a press conference held to mark his one year in office in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to the board, 124 Health Information Management training institutions, including 33 this year have been accredited with over 29,000 health record professionals in Nigeria.
“A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the Kaduna Polytechnic to establish a Health Information Management tutor training programme.
“A committee was put in place to develop the training curriculum and has been completed with three parts – teaching methodology, core Health Information Management and practical.
“Basic Minimum Academic Standard has been developed and approved by the National Universities Commission for BSc HIM and awaiting publication alongside many programmes to be established in Nigerian universities,” he said.
Mustapha said the board has developed policies of yearly renewal of license, the implementation of the NCE circular, and digitalisation of some departments including education/indexing, examination, and licensing.
He added that Professional Diploma, National Diploma, and Higher National Diploma/BSc Professional License Examinations with 3,829 candidates successfully registered to practice Health Information Management in the country have been conducted by the board.
