Heavy security presence in Kano as tensions rise between Emi

Security personnel, including police, soldiers, DSS, and other operatives have cordoned off Gidan Sarki Nasarawa where the dethroned Emir is staying, as well as the current Emir’s palace.

The same security measures were observed at the Kano State Government House.

Although no official statement has been released explaining their presence, a source within the security outfits, who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity, revealed that the deployment is to enhance security.

The source indicated that the security personnel were deployed to prevent potential clashes between supporters of the two monarchs.

Despite the heightened security and the ongoing tensions, our correspondent reports that the ancient city of Kano remains calm, with residents continuing their normal, lawful activities.

Meanwhile, the state Governor, Abba Yusuf and other top officials were still with Emir Sanusi at the main palace while the deposed Emir remained in the Nasarawa palace.

Earlier in the day, Yusuf and the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, had a closed-door meeting with top security chiefs in the state.

Top security chiefs including the Police Commissioner, Director of State Services, Army Brigade commander and NSCDC commander, have met the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, at the mini palace in the Nasarawa area of the state capital city.

When contacted, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna said the deployment of security personnel was a normal security deployment.

“The deployment of the security personnel is all over the state and it’s meant to enhance security given the current happenings,” Haruna said.
