Hisbah Police Apprehends 178 Beggars In Kano

One hundred and seventy-eight (178) suspected beggars have been arrested by Hisbah Board in Kano State for allegedly violating the law against street begging from September – November 2020, in the Kano metropolis.

In a statement on Monday, the Commander-General of Hisbah board, Haroun Ibn-Sina said 76 of those arrested are males while 102 were females, adding that the board will continue to apprehend beggars who refuse to abide by the law.

He said, “Street begging has been reduced in the state since the board began its operations against offenders.”

“Among those arrested 102 were females, while 76 were males. We will make Kano streets beggar-free. Those arrested have been screened and first-time offenders will be handed over to their relatives.”

Ibn-Sina also added that others who are not first-time offenders would be charged to court.
