Hollywood legend, Kirk Douglas has died at the age of 103.
According to reports by his family, Douglas, the son of Jewish-Russian immigrants, died on Wednesday.
Kirk Douglas, the father of Hollywood star, Michael Douglas, who is an Oscar winner and filmmaker, was known in his career that spanned over six decades for his tough-guy roles.
Following his death, Michael Douglas made a post on Facebook, “It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103.
“To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in setting a standard for all of us to aspire to.”
Although, Kirk saw Oscar nominations roll in for his roles in the movies, 'Champion' (1949), 'The Bad and the Beautiful' (1952) and 'Lust for Life' (1956), where he portrayed famed artist, Vincent van Gogh, his Oscar win only came in 1995 when he won an honorary achievement award for “for 50 years as a creative and moral force in the motion picture community.”

Describing his father, Michael, in his post on Facebook, said, “(To) me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine (Zeta-Jones), a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great-grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband,” said Michael.
