How bandits’ informant was arrested with stolen cow in Kad

Vigilantes nabbed a suspected bandits' informant, simply known as Dan Abba, with a stolen cow in Bishini village market in Kachia LGA, Kaduna State.

Ahmadu Sajo, a resident of Azzara in Bishini village, revealed the incident occurred last Thursday when the suspect brought a stolen cow to sell at the market.

Sajo said the suspect was one of the bandits' informants accused of providing information to the bandits who recently abducted herders and rustled their cows in Kuchimi, Haying-Dam, and the Gidan-Makeri district of Kagarko town.

He stated that forces in the region had declared the suspect, among others on the run, wanted, adding that until last Thursday, when luck ran out and he was apprehended with a stolen cow at the village market. 

The local disclosed that the suspect, along with the stolen cow, had been given up to the military and that vigilantes were attempting to track down the location of some of the stolen cows.

He said: "The vigilantes suspected that the cow the suspect brought to the market might be among those cows that were stolen two weeks ago at a village in Kagarko LGA."

SP Hassan Mansur, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, did not answer calls or respond to text messages about the suspect's arrest at the time of filling this report. 

Meanwhile, troops from the Joint Task Force Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) conducted a successful operation, rescuing five women and two babies who were held captive in Zamfara for two months. 

The daring mission saw troops storming the Kuyambana forest in Zamfara State, as reported by OPHD spokesman Suleiman Omale in a statement released on Thursday.

“They were kidnapped in January 2024 from Marange village in Kagara local government area of Niger state.

“The victims, who endured months of captivity, were liberated following the relentless offensive operations carried out by the vigilant troops in the Kuyambana area,” said the statement.

It added, “The successful rescue operation came as a result of the unwavering pressure exerted on the bandits by the troops, leading to the victims’ escape from the terrorists’ enclaves.”

It disclosed that the victims underwent debriefing sessions and were promptly handed over to the relevant authorities for the necessary procedures to reunite them with their respective families.

“The general officer commanding 8 Division of the Nigerian Army Sokoto, Maj. Gen. Godwin Matkut lauded the professionalism exhibited by the troops during the rescue operation.

“Matkut urged them to maintain the momentum until all nefarious elements are eradicated, ensuring the restoration of peace and normalcy in the region,” said the statement.
