Mohammed is the coordinator of the Sector 4 Command of the Joint Border Patrol Team in the North West and made the disclosure at a press briefing on Tuesday in Katsina State.
According to him, his men had gone into the forest in the Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state to curb the activities of smugglers when they met the bandits taking refuge in the bush.
Mohammed said the bandits were friendly and asked for the bags of rice. To save their lives, his men offered them seven out of the 37 bags seized from the smugglers to the bandits.
"We the operatives seized 37 bags of rice and the bandits asked for seven bags before allowing them to pass and save their lives."
"So, you see the risk we take, but people, especially those living along the border communities, engage in attacking our officers."
