How Dethroned Sanusi Prayed To Move From Palace To Grave

Muhammadu Sanusi’s dream to die as an Emir was on Monday shattered after he was dethroned by the Kano State government.

Allnews reports that Kano State Executive Council had unanimously approved the dethronement of Sanusi, at a special sitting held on Monday by the council.

A press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji attributed the removal to the emir’s "total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the state Governor and other lawful authorities."

In an interview dug up by Daily Trust, Sanusi who became the Emir on June 8, 2014, had during his coronation on February 4, 2015, said no position was higher than that of an Emir.

On his enthronement, he said: “Well, in terms of a position or anything material, I don’t have any. My prayer is that I move from this palace to my grave. I don’t have any desire or aspiration that I’m targeting. It is natural, I grew up in the palace and for me, and there was never anybody that is more important than the Emir of Kano, both my grandfather and the late Emir of Kano.

“Positions are nothing; it is really what you do with them. So, ultimately, one will like to leave behind a good record of service. I want to leave a reputation where people of Kano would continue to pray for me in remembrance of the good service and leadership I provided to them.

“There is no house that a man will like to live in rather than this palace; there is nothing that a man wants in this life that Allah has not given to me,” the dethroned emir said.

Meanwhile, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has approved the appointment of His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the 15th Emir of Kano, after the nomination of three prospective candidates by the Kano Emirate Kingmakers.
