Reports of Twitter CEO Elon Musk completing a takeover of Manchester United is a possibility that is not farfetched.
It is widely reported that Musk who has been on Forbes' billionaires' list for the last 10 years is willing to pay 4.5 billion pounds for the English top-flight club.
The asking price for United is dwarfed by the £37.9bn reportedly paid by the South Africa-born billionaire to complete his takeover of Twitter in October 2022.
Musk had always fancied the idea of buying Man Utd long before the Glazers Family announced their decision to sell the club in November 2022.
In a tweet from a few months ago, the Tesla boss made his interest to own United known to the world.
His tweet which immediately gained traction on social media read, " I'm buying Manchester United you're welcome."
Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome

However, he dismissed his tweet which indirectly boosted the club's shares by nearly 17 per cent as a "long-running joke," a mere four hours later.
"I’m not buying any sports teams," Musk said in 2022 after his initial tweet attracted media attention.
“Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid.”
No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.

Besides Musk emerging as a potential buyer, the Glazers have received plenty of interest to buy United from Saudi and American investors as well as those with ties to the UK and Qatar.
But only British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has publicly declared an interest in buying the club from the Glazers.
All proposals for a takeover of the club are handled by the Raine Group who are tasked to analyse and determine who is best suited to be the new owner of Old Trafford.
The American family however set a soft deadline for prospective bids to be made by Friday, February 17, though the imposed soft deadline would give rival bidders an opportunity further down the line to make an approach.
While the Glazers, who have owned the club since 2005, are reportedly seeking £5 or £6 billion for a full sale, they are also open to the idea of keeping their majority stake.
Reports indicate that both Avram and Joel Glazer could settle for an investment as they are exploring the possibility of buying out their siblings.
As the Glazers Family's soft deadline for bids draws ever closer, the tech-billionaire whose offer reportedly beats all other offers the Raine Group have received could add Manchester United to the list of where his fortune comes from.
Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company and Twitter are a number of companies where Musk is regarded as a co-founder and senior figure.
