Reality star Mercy Eke has asked her critics who mock her over her 'Igbo' accent how else they want her to speak.
Appearing on a podcast with media personality Taymesan Emmanuel, Eke said that it is impossible for her to have an English accent because she had the bulk of her education in Owerri, Imo and only went out of the capital for her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
She mentioned that top people in the world use their local accent to speak but Nigerians are trying to force her to acquire a foreign accent that she possibly cant have.
“I left Owerri in 2016. Some people really don't know.
"When they talk about my Igbo accent and I look at them. How do you want me to speak?” Eke said.
“I schooled in Owerri — primary secondary — I only went out of Owerri because of service. How do you want me to speak?
“This is me. I've seen a lot of people, met a lot of people most top people in the world.
"Like Cristiano Ronaldo, how does he speak? With an accent and his language. And he is the world's most famous. People adore him.”
