How Herdsmen Strangled My Cousin To Death –Akeredolu’s A

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on New Media, Gani Muhammed-Ajowa has recounted the gruesome killing of his cousin Dayo Ibiye in the hands of suspected Fulani herdsmen. He said the herdsmen strangled Ibiye to death after unlawfully grazing their cattle on his farmland.

Muhammed-Ajowa said his, 48-year-old cousin was killed in his farm at Ajowa Akoko in Akoko Northwest Local Government of Ondo State on Friday.

He stated the suspected herdsmen and his late cousin had an altercation on Thursday when the herders grazed on his farmlands in the area.

He said Ibiye had warned them not to graze on his farm but the herders ignored him with the claim that the farm and crops on it belonged to everyone.

According to him, “the herdsmen came back today (Friday) and attacked him with different weapons but when they realised that he was not affected, they strangled him to death.”

Speaking further, Mohammed-Ajowa added that they have reported the case to the State Police command.

He said, “We have reported the matter to the Oke Agbe Police Division.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the incident, saying an investigation had commenced on the matter.

It could be recalled that the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu had issued a seven-day ultimatum to herdsmen to leave the forest reserves due to the high rate of insecurity in the state.

Akeredolu gave this directive in a series of tweets on Monday stating that the decision is based on addressing the root cause of kidnapping and other nefarious activities in the state.

In a statement issued on his official Twitter handle, Akereolu said the forests have been turned into a place for felons to carry out their criminal activities.
