How man killed two brothers in Adamawa over farmlands

A quarrel over farmland has cost the lives of two brothers in Adamawa State.

The two lost their lives when a man having a quarrel with them over a contested land shot a gun at them.

The Adamawa State Police Command, which detained Mali Emmanuel, the alleged killer, stated that the clash broke out between the suspect and the victims over the farm at Bori in Jada LGA.

“During the altercation, Emmanuel used his dane gun and shot the victims, leading to their unfortunate death,” the police said in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje.

Nguroje added that the 31-year-old Mali Emmanuel who is a vigilante man, was arrested “for firing and killing of Emmanuel Hamma Shehu and Almond Hamma Shehu, all residents of Bori village, Koma District of Jada Local Government Area.”

He indicated that more inquiries were ongoing and that the suspect would thereafter face charges to face legal action.

Meanwhile, the Adamawa State Police Command on Thursday said it has arrested a 36-year-old suspect for alleged fraud and murder of his victim.

The suspect identified as Aliyu Yakubu, a resident of Hong Local Government Area of the State allegedly defrauded his victim by fraudulently obtaining three bags of maize to make him rich.

The command's spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, adding that the incident occurred on June 13, 2024.

Nguroje explained that the suspect also received a Toyota Starlet car, a motorcycle, and a Carry-go tricycle from the victim with the same motive - to make him rich.

According to the statement, the suspect who volunteered his confession to the police said he took his victim, Bassey Isah to a forest where he killed and buried him him.

The command's spokesperson added that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The statement partly reads: "The Adamawa State Police Command has, on 13/06/2024, arrested Aliyu Yakuba, 36, a resident of Jalingo Daddawa village, UBA,in Hong LGA, for killing of Bassey Isah.

"On 13/06/2024, the suspect deceived and dishonestly obtained by fraud from the victim three bags of maize, with pretence to print and produce Naira notes of Nigeria currency. 

"The suspect further demanded and received from the Victim a Toyota Starlet car, a Motorcycle, and a Carry Go tricycle, promising to make him Rich over night. 

"The suspect then took Bassey to a forest, where he brutally struck him with an iron rod and buried him.

"The suspect volunteered confessional statement to the allegations and will be charged to court for Culpable Homicide punishable with death and Armed Robbery at the conclusion of the investigation."
