Captain Ekeinde and Omotola Jalade
Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and her husband Captain Matthew Ekeinde are celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary, which also happens to coincide with Captain Ekeinde’s birthday.
The couple marked the occasion by sharing a rare bedroom photo of themselves on Omotola’s Instagram page, in which Captain Ekeinde had his wife’s nickname ‘Omosexy’ tattooed on his arm.
Omotola expressed her excitement about entering the next phase of their marriage after 27 years, and it’s clear that their love and commitment to each other have remained strong throughout their time together.
But how have they managed to sustain their relationship for so long?
In a previous interview with media personality Chude Jidenowo in 2021, Omotola spoke candidly about her marriage, revealing that they don’t treat it as a sacred thing that is untouchable.
Instead, they respect each other’s space and choices and understand that they are both fallible human beings.
“What you see is what you get, if I’m pissed with you, you will know.
“It’s easy for us to relate because he knows who I am and what I stand for and vice versa.
“We are very open to each other, we talk to each other, we understand that we are human beings and wherever we are fallible we discuss it because we are partners in life.
“We don’t carry this husband and wife thing on the head as if it is some sacred thing that you don’t touch, enter.
"It’s not that serious. We are partners.
“We are partners alright and I have a journey, I chose to make that journey with you.
"You have a journey; I chose to make that journey with you.
“With or without you, I will make my journey.
"With or without me, he will make his journey,” Omotola said.

The couple’s mutual respect for each other’s journeys and choices has undoubtedly played a significant role in keeping their marriage strong for 27 years.
They talk openly to each other and understand that they are partners in life, with or without each other.
“So we both understand that I’m with you is not because I have to be with you.
"I’m with you because I choose to be with you. He’s with me because he chooses to be with me.
“So we respect each other’s choices, each other’s space, and each other’s wholesomeness.
“He knows that I’m not with him because I love him all the time.
"I’m with him because God has given me a mandate to be by his side and vice versa so the time when I see him and I’m not so much in love with him, I report him to God.
“I’m like "Hey, what's up now? Are you gonna make it come around?’”
With this level of mutual understanding and respect, it’s no surprise that Omotola and Captain Ekeinde’s love continues to endure, even after 27 years.
The couple met in church in 1994 when Omotola was 16 and Matthew was 26. After two years, Matthew proposed to her and they tied the knot.
Although they got married in 1996, it was not until 2001 that they had their dream wedding with a number of friends and family onboard a Dash 7 aircraft while flying from Lagos to Benin.
In the course of their 25 years of marriage journey, they have been blessed with four children; M.J., Micheal, Princess, and Meraiah Ekeinde.

Being public figures, their marriage was not spared the usual infidelity rumour and in January of 2021, a report by a popular Instagram blog, Gistlover, alleged that Omotola is romantically linked with Nigerian politician, Adams Oshiomole even though the allegation had no substantial proof to back it up.
Reacting to the accusation, the 45-year-old actress slammed the blog, demanding that the blog finish and prove the story.
She also gave the blog an ultimatum of 24 hours to prove their allegation and called on her fans, Osexynationals, to report Gistlover’s Instagram account.
