How Rihanna inspired my song — Ed Sheeran

British singer Ed Sheeran has disclosed that his United States colleague Rihanna was the inspiration behind his song, 'Shape of You'.

The Grammy-winning British artist in a recent interview with Hits Radio revealed that Rihanna was the muse behind the aforementioned breakout hit.

He also praised her versatility as a songwriter's inspiration, noting that when he wrote the song, he envisioned her.

'Shape Of You' was released on January 6, 2017, as a lead single from his third album, 'Divide,' and went on to win the Best Pop Solo Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

Sheeran also disclosed that he initially wrote Justin Bieber's hit 'Love Yourself,' which was turned down by several artists before becoming a blockbuster success.

“Rihanna is genre-less, she can do anything. She’s the grail for songwriters. When I wrote Shape Of You, the person I was writing in my mind for was Rihanna,” Sheeran stated.
