The four major mobile networks in Nigeria have released easy and fast steps for subscribers to link their National Identification Number (NIN) to their mobile line, following the order by President Muhammadu Buhari that all SIM cards must be linked to NIN in a bid to curb crime across the country.

Airtel, MTN, Glo and 9Mobile have released a short USSD code to link your NIN to your phone number in order to avoid your sim to get blocked or banned by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) before the deadline day or time.

The Nigeria mobile networks said aside from linking their NIN with their mobile number, it will also help its customers to verify and update their NIN instantly.

The NIN is a unique number which identifies you as a Nigerian but randomly chosen and assigned to an individual at the completion of enrolment into the National Identity Database (NIDB) by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Here is the easiest and quickest way to link your National Identification Number (NIN) on MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9Mobile by simply dialling a USSD code on your mobile phone.

How To Link Your NIN To Your Airtel Line 

To link your NIN on your Airtel line simply dial *121*1# on your Airtel mobile number and go through the instructions below.

• Type 1 for “NIN Capture” and send.
• Enter your 11-digit NIN and send.
• Wait for the message confirming your submission.
• If you get an error, just wait for some time and try again.

How To Link Your NIN To Your MTN Line

• The USSD code given below is for MTN users to link their NIN to their mobile phone. You can also link your NIN through an online registration portal by just typing  https://mtnonline.com/nin
• The easiest and fastest way of linking your NIN on your MTN line is by dialling  *785# or by downloading myMTNApp, on Google PlayStore or Apple Store.
• After this is done, you can complete the NIN linking form by entering your name, phone number, NIN, and email address.
• Submit the form as soon as you’re done.
• Wait for feedback from the network.

How To Link NIN To Your Glo Line

There are different ways to which you can link your NIN on your Glo mobile line.

• You can either dial *109*yourNIN# (e.g *109*90123456789#) and follow the prompts instructions to submit your details
• Or simply text your 11-digits NIN number to 109 through SMS (e.g 90123456789 to 109) and wait for the reply.
•  You can even visit the online registration portal via www.gloworld.com/ng/nin to fill your information and link. 

How To Link NIN To Your 9Mobile Line

• The last but not the least is how to link your NIN to your 9Mobile line, you can do this by simply dialling *200*8# on your mobile phone and follow the prompts instruction stated to submit your details. Which may include entering your 11 digit NIN number.

• Or go through the  online registration portal of 9Mobile via 9mobile.com.ng/nin to submit your details

• There will be a pop-up menu, click on ‘Verify and Link your NIN now’
• Thereafter, fill the required information you are provided with and submit.

How To Retrieve NIN Number Using USSD

Have you forgotten your NIN or you don’t remember where you kept your NIN slip? You don't need to worry, NIMC’s USSD service enables you to retrieve your NIN conveniently using your mobile phone. All you need to do is to follow these simple steps below so as to retrieve your NIN number with ease.

First and foremost, you will need to dial *346# on your mobile phone or current number linked with your BVN. From the options displayed from the drop-down menu on your phone select “NIN Retrieval”.

• Type ‘1’ to choose NIN Retrieval Option if you are dialling from the phone number you used in registering you NIN.
• Type ‘2’ to choose NIN Search if you have lost your number, you will be required to input some of your registration detail and that all about retrieving your NIN. 

Note: Using this service attracts N20 fee which will be deducted from your phone credit balance.
