In Ebonyi, a husband, his wife, and two others have been arrested for selling a 13-year-old girl simply identified as Ciamaka.
The young girl was trafficked to Burkina Faso for prostitution. It was claimed that the Delta State Police arrested the suspects and they are awaiting trial in court.
Emmanuel Uduma, the Secretary to the Ebonyi Progressives Union, Delta State, disclosed on Sunday that the young Chiamaka was taken from her village in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, with the promise of getting her a job as a house help. Unfortunately, she was taken to Burkina Faso for prostitution.
On getting to Burkina Faso, Chiamaka was told that she was bought for N150,000 and she would make N1.2m for her madam while working as a prostitute. Emmanuel Uduma claimed that the girl escaped and reported to the police before she was brought back to Nigeria.
Emmanuel Uduma handed the young girl to the Ebonyi State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chinwe Okah.
Okah assured that the state government would take care of the girl and make her dream of going back to school a reality and also said of how the state would continue to protect the interest of all its residents.
