Hushpuppi's Trial Postponed Till 2021

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the trial of Hushpuppi, a suspected internet fraudster earlier slated to commence on October 13 has been suspended.

The suspension was contained in the orders of Otis Wright, a district judge in California, released on September 23, Premium Times reports.

The trial will now continue on May 4, 2021.

Hushpuppi known for his flamboyant lifestyle on social media platforms was picked by the FBI in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on June 10, 2020, after he was embroiled in a $35 million ventilator scam.

In a damning video released by Dubai Police tagged 'Operation Fox Hunt 2', it was revealed that the Instagram big boy, born Ramon Olorunwa Abass, scammed 1,926,400 victims.

New Evidence Against Hushpuppi

In September, new evidence was found against the self-proclaimed Gucci Master.

The new evidence against him was submitted in an affidavit filed on September 14, with the United States District Court, Central District of California, by Andrew John Innocenti of the Federal Burea of Investigations (FBI), who specialises in cyber-enabled fraud and Business Email Compromise (BEC) schemes.

The documents supported a previous affidavit 1 of Case No 2:20-mj02992 and an arrest warrant for Hushpuppi for “violation of 18 U.S.C. § l956(h) (conspiracy to Engage in Money Laundering).”

The documents alleged that Huspuppi used his personal email address to register on a website which is a marketplace for purchasing US banklogs.

“In reviewing data from ABASS email address ([email protected]), I found ABBAS registered on a website whizzlog.com(“whizzlog”) which is a marketplace for buying US Backlogs and money laundering,” the officer in charge of the investigations wrote in the document. Read more
