Nigerian female singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known by her stage name, Tems, has spoken on her joint track with Wizkid 'Essence'.
According to her, she could have delivered a better verse on the track. Speaking during her feature on Apple Music’s ‘The Dotty Show’, Tems said that after she recorded her verse, she felt she could have done better but was not allowed to add to her verse.
She said, “Even the day I recorded that I was still like, I can do better. I think I can do better. Send me the beat and then let me do it again. And they were like, ‘no, this is great’. And I was like, ‘yeah, but I want to add some more.”
“I was still even trying to top it and they didn’t let me. I was happy with it. I always like to challenge myself.
“I used to be such a perfectionist. I was like, ‘no, I can do much better. But I just gave up and I was like, ‘you know what? This is fine’. But yeah, I had no clue. Wiz was like, “No, this is mad.” And I was like, ‘I mean, okay. Cool’.”
She also spoke on a viral video of US media personality, Kylie Jenner, singing along to ‘Essence’.
According to Tems, she had also started hearing the song being played in places she least expected.
She said, “That was good. When I was in Los Angeles, I was hearing the song in the most random places. I did not even know that people there knew the song. It was quite an experience.”
